14 months...start to finish. All high school requirements completed in 14 months. Yes, he did.
Sean Raymond All high school requirements completed in 14 months. Without question. Done. And with great grades. Much of it through the University of Maine. And he was 15.
Sean Raymond and his family came to Homeschool Associates after realizing that the private Christian school he was attending did not offer sufficient challenge. Steve & Carol Moitozo showed them how they could accelerate the high school experience and really challenge Sean.
So we went to work. Carol Moitozo designed a program from the thousands of volumes here in our store. Sean was seriously motivated, and the family was committed. When they started, they began like most other homeschoolers. They bought books, sat at the kitchen table, and dug in. Soon, they too, were frustrated with what the texts had to offer. So they took Carol's suggestion, and went off to the University of Maine for placement tests. There was no problem with placement, and he began taking courses, Algebra I & II, Chemistry (with Lab), Business & Economics I, College Writing, Introduction to Literature. Things were coming along nicely, and quickly.
The Raymond family met with Carol (as their support person and guide) every few months. Carol notes, "When they came in for a meeting, they always came as a family, Sean, Mom, Dad, and Sister." Together, they would review Sean's progress and plan the next step, all the while keeping in mind the requirements for a high school diploma. He took course after course at the University while maintaining other courses at home. In addition, he successfully took the C.L.E.P.s in US History I and College Algebra. Fourteen months after launching his homeschool career, Sean had met all of the requirements for his high school diploma and had earned 25 college credits in the process.
Now Sean has another goal. With his diploma from North Atlantic Regional High School accomplished, he is now enrolled full-time at the University of Maine and plans to have his Baccalaureate Degree at age 18 -- the same year his classmates are just finishing high school!
By the way...Sean also has a part-time job while attending the university. He's employed by Homeschool Associates.
